Chris Evans’ Avengers: Doomsday Role Can Repeat His 2024 Cameo In A Much Darker Way

Avengers: Doomsday will see the return of Chris Evans to the MCU, providing the chance to repeat the actor"s 2024 cameo in an inherently darker way. Avengers: Doomsday"s story was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 after the restructuring of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Not only is the film bringing back the directing pair of some of the best-ranked MCU movies, the Russo Brothers, but it was also confirmed to usher in the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the franchise.
RDJ will drop the Iron Man armor in favor of Doctor Doom"s iconic mask, providing the next major MCU villain for Avengers 5"s team of heroes. The announcement of Downey Jr."s return was massive and one of the biggest pieces of MCU news in years that many assumed would not be topped. However, an update in December 2024 came close, with Chris Evans" Avengers: Doomsday return being confirmed. This caused almost as much speculation as Downey Jr."s return, but the MCU may already have revealed Evans’ role in 2024, with Avengers: Doomsday simply adding a dark twist.
Chris Evans Could Be The Johnny Storm To Robert Downey Jr’s Doom In Avengers: Doomsday The Two Would Have An Intriguing Connection Close In 2024, Evans appeared as one of the many Marvel cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine. Initially, the film tricked audiences into thinking Evans was back as Captain America before revealing he was actually reprising his role as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch from 2005"s Fantastic Four and its sequel, 2007"s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Although many may think that having Evans play Johnny once more in Avengers: Doomsday would be too much after only doing so two years earlier, the film could put a dark twist on this by connecting to Robert Downey Jr."s Doctor Doom.
Doom is the primary villain of The Fantastic Four in Marvel Comics, and establishing their rivalry via RDJ and Chris Evans would be a dark MCU twist...
Since RDJ"s return was confirmed, many have assumed that he will not be playing the MCU"s version of Doctor Doom, but instead a multiversal variant. If this proves to be the case in Avengers: Doomsday, the film"s title suggests that it will outline Doom"s backstory in whatever universe he is from. Evans" character and the size of his role have not yet been confirmed, meaning he could return as the Johnny Storm of Doom"s universe. Doom is the primary villain of The Fantastic Four in Marvel Comics, and establishing their rivalry via RDJ and Chris Evans would be a dark MCU twist.
Chris Evans & RDJ’s MCU Past Will Make This Scene Much Darker Their Past MCU Roles Make This Possibility Harder To Bear Image By Zoe Miskelly If this theory comes to fruition in Avengers: Doomsday, the scene showcasing Downey Jr."s Doom facing off against Evans" Johnny Storm in another universe would be made much darker. The reason for this stems from their previous MCU roles. Of course, Downey Jr. and Evans are synonymous with Iron Man and Captain America and will likely continue to be so long after the days of the MCU are over. This means that, regardless of Doom"s story or the potential inclusion of Johnny Storm, the two actors will subconsciously be linked to Iron Man and Captain America by audiences.

Posts 1 Inherently, this set-up for RDJ"s Doom could be dark anyway. Just as Thanos was introduced properly for the first time by overpowering Thor, Hulk, and Loki in Avengers: Infinity War, Doom"s introduction in Avengers: Doomsday could see him laying waste to whatever universe he is from. Combining this with Evans" Human Torch opposing him makes this infinitely darker, as audiences will be watching what once were the two pillars of the Avengers go against each other, likely ending in Doom killing Johnny. All of this puts a dark but intriguing twist on the concept of multiversal variants for Avengers: Doomsday.
This Theory Coming True Would Benefit Avengers: Doomsday’s Other Confirmed Heroes Avengers: Doomsday's Cast Could Still Shine Beyond This Close One of the more realistic issues that could be presented by bringing Evans and RDJ back for Avengers: Doomsday is the potential overshadowing of the film"s other characters and cast members. That said, the confirmed cast members of Avengers: Doomsday could be allowed to shine regardless if this Johnny Storm and Dr. Doom theory comes true. For one, this theory would benefit the mainline versions of The Fantastic Four which are set to appear in 2025"s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

By including a scene or entire sequence that depicts Doom"s rivalry with The Fantastic Four via RDJ and Evans" versions, the inclusion of the MCU"s iteration of the team will instantly be justified. Setting up the long-standing rivalry between the two Marvel entities will only make the character arcs of Pedro Pascal"s Reed Richard, Vanessa Kirby"s Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn"s Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach"s Ben Grimm all the better. Beyond that, Evans’ return in a smaller role will not overshadow members of the MCU’s Avengers: Doomsday team, like Anthony Mackie’s Captain America or any other heroes.
